Thoughts on a subject from an interview with Robert Tennyson Stevens preview of the video on YouTube and the full interview is on CMN
On the spiritual path we are aiming for a goal, and that is what the training is the planting of that goal which we are to nurture, and cultivate until it is fully formed.
When we act in any way, either with our body, speech or mind we show how well we have cultivated this seed.
We refrain from doing things not because some “Guru” says these things are bad, but because we see the negative influence these actions can have, talking of sex can lead to sexual misconduct, talk of stealing can lead to stealing, the phrase “you protest too much” came about because it was noticed that those who talk, and slander those who do certain actions regularly are more than likely to do these, or of done these things themselves.
Words have meanings and when we speak or write how we use words show the meaning we give them, we without realising come from the reality of the moment we perceive, be it past, or future in comparison to the moment we are in, so if I am saying I want something, I am saying I don’t have that thing, and the same is true of I don’t want. When we continually say we want or don’t want something we are saying we want it.
A good example is when someone asks a question which has personal relevance and our response is a diatribe of those who do these things, probably is an indication of either what you say is what you do, or that the claims of not being bothered are not as accurate as thought.
At the end of the day I may be right, I may be wrong, but I share this hoping I am one, the other, both, or neither.
