In The Buddha's Words - Bhikkhu Bodhi

This is the first book of Bhikkhu Bodhi's I've read, and well worth the money. the introductions could of been turned into stand alone book/s, however, with the inclusion of the Sutta's brought from throughout the canon, it is a great book both for beginners to the suttas and the Buddha's Teachings, as-well as more knowledgeable sutta readers.

His introductions are excellent and informative, covering the topics he is explaining as thoroughly as possible, and his translations of the Sutta's collected into groupings of subject, are easy to follow, and highlight the Essays explaining them.

A brilliant book for all those interested in the Sutta's as a introduction to them, or as a handy manual to keep.

Things As They Are

Author: Ajahn Maha-Boowa

A brilliant book with excellent advice on practice, taken from talks to the monks at Venerable Ãcariya Mahã Boowa's monastery, Wat Pa Baan Taad, in Udorn Thani Province, Thailand, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about their endeavour for enlightenment. The chapters do deal with issues of life as a monk, however have advice applicable to everyone also, weaving the depth and scope in a way which covers issues in a way so that what ever level of understanding one is at the advice can be applied.

This Book doesn't inspire any long winded review or have a review I can find to share, but what this book has done is make my determination greater; clarified some areas; and create a faith in Ajahn Maha-Boowa as someone who has walked the path as far as it goes.

The title of this collection is taken from a Pãli term yathã-bhuta-nana-dassana – knowledge and vision of things as they are, a term worthy of reflection by all practitioners seeking truth.

The Four Noble Truths by Ajahn Sumedho

This is an excellent book, compiled and edited from talks given by Ajahn Sumedho, it is clear concise, and full of insight useful to reflect on, as well as ways to look at the suttas.

The Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta is a detailed explanation of the four noble truths, pointing out twelve 'duties' we have to the truths, and Ajahn Sumedho elegantly uses these are the basis for the investigation into this core teaching of the Buddhas, inviting us to join him in this investigation and see where it takes us, Hopefully to see the truths for ourselves.

Well worth the download, although available in print from related monasteries,
