**6. The Advantages of Developing the Ways to Reference the Foundations of Mindfulness - Satipaṭṭhānabhāvanānisaṃso**

**6.1 Time Frame**

**Yo hi koci, bhikkhave, ime cattāro satipaṭṭhāne evaṃ bhāveyya sattavassāni**Meditators,1 because whoever would develop these four ways to reference the foundations of mindfulness, cultivating in this way for seven years

**tassa dvinnaṃ phalānaṃ aññataraṃ phalaṃ pāṭikaṅkhaṃ:**for them, out of two consequences, a certain result is to be foreseeable:2

**diṭṭhe va dhamme aññā; sati vā upādisese anāgāmitā.**final understanding in this very life; or, mindful there is some attachment remaining, the third state of the path, that of non-returner.

**tassa dvinnaṃ phalānaṃ aññataraṃ phalaṃ pāṭikaṅkhaṃ:**for them, out of two consequences, a certain result is to be foreseeable:

**diṭṭhe va dhamme aññā; sati vā upādisese anāgāmitā.**final understanding in this very life; or, mindful there is some attachment remaining, the third state of the path, that of non-returner.

**Tiṭṭhatu, bhikkhave, aḍḍhamāsaṃ,**Meditators, Let alone half a month,

**yo hi koci, bhikkhave, ime cattāro satipaṭṭhāne evaṃ bhāveyya sattāhaṃ**Meditators, because whoever would develop these four ways to reference the foundations of mindfulness, cultivating in this way for seven days

**tassa dvinnaṃ phalānaṃ aññataraṃ phalaṃ pāṭikaṅkhaṃ:**for them, out of two consequences, a certain result is to be foreseeable:

**6.2 Reminder of the Foundations**

**Ekāyano ayaṃ, bhikkhave, maggo sattānaṃ visuddhiyā,**This is the only means for anyone, Mendicants, the path for beings to be born in purity,

**sokapariddavānaṃ samatikkamāya, dukkhadomanassānaṃ atthaṅgamāya,**for their total release from grief & lamentation, for the setting down of stress & displeasure,

**ñāyassa adhigamāya, nibbānassa sacchikiriyāya,**this path has the right manner for the attainment of knowledge, and for entering nibbāna,

**yadidaṃ cattāro satipaṭṭhānā.**In other words, the four foundations of mindfulness used in reference.”

**6.3 Conclusion**

**Iti yan-taṃ vuttaṃ, idam-etaṃ paṭicca vuttan”-ti.**Therefore what was spoken, “it was said for this reason.”

**Idam-avoca Bhagavā,**Once the fortunate one had said this,

**attamanā te bhikkhū Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinandun-ti.**those meditators were delighted by these words of the fortunate one and greatly rejoiced in them.
