(Dhammapada) Pupphavaggo - The Group with Flowers - DhpV.44–59 (KN 2.4)

44.
Who will investigate this plane, with the realms of yama and gods?
Who will understand the well taught verses of truth, like a skilled florist knows how to pick flowers?

45.
One who is undergoing the training will investigate this plane, with the realms of yama and gods?
One who is undergoing the training will understand the well taught verses of truth, like a skilled florist knows how to pick flowers?

46.
Knowing this body is like foam, realising its mirage like nature.
Having removed māra's floral darts, go to where the king of death cannot see.

47.
Those who only collect flowers, with a mind possessed of attachment.
Like those sleeping in a village when a mighty flood hits, death with lake them.

48.
Those who only collect flowers, with a mind possessed of attachment.
Not satisfied with only these sensual pleasures, you act under the control of the lord of death.

49.
Even as a Bee with flower, without harming the colour or smell,
Leaves having taken the juice, in this way a wise walk through the village.

50.
Do not focus upon what is disagreeable about others, what they do & do not do.
Only look at what you yourself do or do not do

51.
Just like a beautiful flower, without a blemish or scent.
Is speech that is well spoken becomes fruitless when not acted upon.

52.
Just like a beautiful flower, without a blemish and fragrant.
Is speech that is well spoken becomes fruitful when acted upon.

53.
From a heap of flowers, one can make many bouquets.
So when one is born as a human, they should do what is fit to be done & skilful.

54.
As the scent of the flowers cannot go against the wind, not even Sandal-wood, Tagar, or Jasmine.
The scent of the good goes against the wind, in every direction the scent of the skilful one go.

55.
Matured Sandal-wood, Tagar, and Water-lily infused into water,
These made into perfume are not comparable to the fragrance of virtue.

56.
The scent of the vigilant is greater than Sandal-wood & Tagar, which is like anyone.
Yet the scent of those who observe moral principles, is more excellent and goes up even to the deities.

57.
Those who are perfect in morality, abide diligently,
and freed through perfect understanding, māra does not find their path.

58.
As a pile of rubbish, thrown by the main road,
a pleasant and fragrant Lotus can still grow there.

59.
In this way rubbish like beings, worldly and ignorant,
are out shone by the wise disciples of the completely enlightened one.
The fourth group with similes of flowers has finished.

    Current Projects

    The Dhammapada -
I started this project a little while ago, although it was mainly Gathas used in chanting, or for Calligraphy Projects.

Apart from these I have finished the first 15 chapters. Updates with translations being done both in general and specific projects will be shared on the calendar.
