(The Buddha) Do you doubt the wise due to constant association with them? How do you respect the holder of light to humanity?
(Rahula) I do not doubt the wise due to constantly associating with them! The holder of light to humanity is continuously praised by me!
(The Buddha) Having given up the five strands of sense pleasure, which are pleasing to see and delightful; Through faith you have left the household, so in this life put an end to stress.
Associate with a society of virtuous friends and choose a remote resting place; enjoy seclusion, few conversations, and be moderate with the amount of food you partake.
The requisites of robes, alms-food, dwellings, (and medicines) are a net if craved for, you will then come again to this world.
By practising restraint with regard to the senses using the rules of discipline; develop mindfulness of the body, and frequently develop dis-passion towards it.
Avoid pleasant signs that attend to lust; turn the mind to their unpleasant side so the mind becomes calm and grounded.
Cultivate the sign-less concentration, to get rid of the conceit I am; then by understanding this pride, being at peace acting mindfully.
